Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR: the lowdown
As if the regular Dodge Viper, sorry, SRT10, wasn't hard enough, the Street and Racing Technology division at the Chrysler group's Detroit HQ have dreamed up a hardcore street-legal racing version. It's not for the faint-hearted, as you can tell from the angry body addenda and huge spoilers mounted on the already monstrous coupe. The ACR bit of the name denotes it's an American Club Racer spec car - it's the first use of the badge on a Viper since 1999.
Well, not completely – that would be too much to hope for. But London Mayor Boris Johnson has scrapped the recent extension of the Congestion Charging Zone, which took in most of Chelsea, Kensington and Westminster, and was hugely unpopular. But BMW aren’t going to be left out of the four-door, swoopy coupe market for long with the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe due to arrive in the Summer of 2012, after the Gran Coupe Concept was revealed at Frankfurt last year. Ahead of the debut of the Gran Coupe – probably at Geneva in the Spring as a production-ready car – BMW are out doing the James May favourite trick of shaking it down at the Nurburgring.
